Allied Security provide retail security to a wide range of nationwide retailers and retail malls throughout New Zealand. In 2023, analysis of international retail security trends by the Allied Security senior management team identified that retail crime offending, including the use of violence while offending in a retail setting was likely to increase in the coming years throughout New Zealand. To proactively address these anticipated retail crime trends and meet the ever-evolving retail security landscape, a National Retail Security Manager was appointed in 2023. Key functions of this role were to drive change and innovation in retail security and implement initiatives that improve security outcomes for Allied Security retail clients.
Since the appointment of the National Retail Security Manager, several highly successful and security industry leading initiatives have been implemented, including,
Reduced risk and improved safety from the identification, targeting and early apprehension of high-risk, recidivist retail crime offenders.
Reduced impact from identifying and addressing adverse effects from ‘driver of crime’ incidents from neighbouring high-risk locations
Increased collective Active Armed Offender / Emergency scenario training with retailer and management teams from proactive training and targeted training partnerships
Increased analysis and focus on ‘data driven’ identified ‘high-risk’ offending locations within retail premises and collaborative based solutions implemented to address offending.
Enhanced awareness and dissemination of industry updates, offending trends, prevention opportunities and governmental led initiatives to retailers and mall management teams.
Enhanced engagement with national and localised Police, Iwi, Māori Wardens and partner agencies that has led to increased public trust and confidence in security and improved security related outcomes.
To support these initiatives, several highly effective partnerships have been developed with Australasian partners to maximise the value in Artificial Intelligence, Active Armed Offender and Critical Risk training for our retail clients our workforce, and a recognised Behaviour Analyst to assess and review our guard training package to ensure Allied Security Guards are receiving cutting edge training.
Allied Security have committed to remaining at the forefront of retail security industry though an ongoing commitment to attending Australasian wide retail security conferences and regular interaction with a well-established global network to ensure our training and deployment packages, are equipped for emerging retail security trends.
Retail security providers have traditionally focussed on deploying guards with little innovation or consideration of initiatives to address wider retail security issues. Since the appointment of the National Retail Security, Allied Security have revolutionized retail security in New Zealand with many providers now trying to emulate many of the initiatives pioneered by Allied Security.
