This award recognizes the outstanding collaborative efforts between Woolworths, Coles, and the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad of the NSW Police Force in successfully apprehending a group of criminals responsible for a string of break-ins.
The investigation was initiated by Woolworths’ on-call investigator, Danny El Helou, who identified a pattern in the modus operandi of the offenders targeting their stores, specifically noting the use of a distinctive bed sheet. Upon learning that Coles was also being targeted, Danny proactively contacted them, confirming the use of the same bed sheet in those incidents as well. This crucial information led to the establishment of a joint investigation, involving both retailers and the NSW Police Force. The offenders, undeterred, continued their crime spree, racking up 12 incidents with a total value of $186,586 in stolen goods.
Throughout the investigation, Danny played a pivotal role as the lead investigator, maintaining constant communication and coordination with the Police. His dedication and diligence proved invaluable when the offenders were finally caught red-handed during a break-in. The Police apprehended the criminals in their vehicle, with the stolen cigarettes and the distinctive bed sheet still inside, providing conclusive evidence of their guilt.
This successful outcome highlights the significant impact that can be achieved when retailers and law enforcement agencies work together. The collaboration between Woolworths, Coles, and the NSW Police Force, spearheaded by Danny El Helou’s astute observations and proactive approach, demonstrates the power of shared information and coordinated action in combating crime.
